Description:
At the end of the module the students will be able to:
● Explain the concepts, ethics, and factors influencing leadership and management in the health sector.
● Apply selected tools that identify leadership styles and how they can be used in staff development and towards goals for the organisation .
● Interpret the principles of mentoring and coaching for effective leadership and management in limited-resource settings.
● Develop important soft skills such as delegation, negotiation, and conflict management to work effectively in complex situations.
● Develop a plan for improving the quality of healthcare in a limited resource setting .
Assessment Procedures:
A minimum attendance of 80% all lecturers is mandatory. Students attend less than 80% of lectures must re-take the course.
The grading scheme is a point scale 0 to 10, with 10 is the top grade. Average grade comprises of group presentation and individual essay as below:
Oral presentation (40%): During the course, students will work in teams to complete a presentation on Quality Improvement and then present their plan to lecturers and other students .
Written essay (60%) : using knowledge on leadership and management skills, students are required to individually write an essay to analyze a specific leadership and management issue in a limited resource setting and provide recommendations for improvement. The length of the writing should be 3000 words at maximum and 2400 words at minimum. Students will submit their essay a week after the end of the course.
Evaluation grades will be communicated within 15 days after the submission of the final assignment.
Students have to pass the average mark of ≥ 5.5 points. Students with average grade
Content:

Methods:
● The course is composed of 44 hours of in-class teaching that comprise 30 hours of interactive lecture time and 14 hours of facilitated group work and assessment. An additional 16 hours of self-study time is expected.
● The course uses lectures, participatory exercises, case studies, role-playing, group discussion, student presentations and individual essay to achieve learning objectives.
● Reading materials are distributed to students beforehand. Some key readings are required and some further readings are suggested but not mandatory.

Proficiency in English:
TOEFL 550 or IELTS 6.0, Students admitted to a Master Degree Program within tropEd Network are assumed to have sufficient English language proficiency.
Attendance:
The minimum number is 3, the maximum number of students is limited to 25, max no. of tropEd students is 10.

Remarks:
With the goal to enhance management and leadership capacity for students, the course expects to improve the quality and effectiveness of health care programs/services through understanding and application of leadership and management knowledge and skills.
