Description:
At the end of the module, participants will be able to:
1. Identify/Characterise Non-Communicable Diseases and their risk factors
2. Understand the global burden of major NCDs, and risk factors in low and middle income and high income countries
3. Identify the need for NCD services in various vulnerable backgrounds
4. Discuss the relate the knowledge of different health system challenges in tackling combating NCDs
5.Discuss challenges in conducting screening programs in the community
6. Plan and execute prevention strategies for different NCDs |

Assessment Procedures:
The evaluation will be assessed on the following terms:
1. Individual Class Attendance
Students are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of all classes.
2. Course Assignments
Students have to submit 3 individually written assignments during the course, of which the topic will be provided by the course coordinator. Assignments will be assessed on a pass/fail scale.
3. Post-course Assignment
The post-course assignment will include open and closed questions, with short answer questions (SAQ) and/or MCQ. The final grade is based on the post-course assignment, which can only be submitted if the student has attended at least 80% of the course and submitted all course assignments. The final grade will be based on the post-course assignment.The minimum pass mark for the post-course assignment is 60%
Resit: Students who do not pass the post-course assignment will be given the opportunity to re-sit within one month after the course. |

Methods:
The overall module is split into three parts:
a) Individual asynchronous pre-reading over the first 2 weeks, before the tutor-facilitated online course starts (26% of the overall module)
b) a synchronous tutor-facilitated online learning module (54% of the overall module), delivered by using participatory learning methods: interactive lectures led by experts in the field, individual and group exercises (e.g., break-out sessions).
c) individually written post-course assignment (20% of the overall module). |

Prerequisites:
Proof of English competence: Good working knowledge of English is required. tropEd students from an accredited tropEd home institution who have passed a core course in English will be considered sufficiently fluent in the English language. Also, students who can provide proof of academic education at the Bachelor’s level passed in English will be considered sufficiently fluent.
As it is an online course, access to a computer, a webcam, as well as a microphone, and a stable internet connection, are required.
Participants are required to have a background in health science: Students who completed their bachelor degree (at least 4 years) in health sciences including MBBS, MD, BDS, BPT, Nursing, Public Health, etc. Students who completed or studying in any postgraduate courses related to health sciences. Any health professional working in the field of public health in Government, private or NGOs. |

Once prerequisites are met, participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. |

Fees:
200 Euro
students from LMICs will receive a 50% waiver. |
|
Scholarships:
The Teaching and Training Unit (TTU) at CIHLMU would like to offer students from low- and middle-income settings worldwide the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to reduce the tuition fee to 50%. One 100% scholarship will be offered on a competitive basis for 1 participant from LMICs. The decision on such course fee reductions will only be made on an individual basis. The TTU and the collaboration partners at BUHS will decide to whom the scholarships will be awarded.
If a student is interested, the student’s CV and a letter of motivation (no longer than 500 words) outlining the student’s current situation and personal motivation for attending the Advanced Module should be sent to ttu@lrz.uni-muenchen.de within the regular registration period.
